I lived in New York for 45 years. Zohran Mamdani is one the best things to ever happen to NYC politics. This young man is for the people and by the people. He is the people’s champion of this era. Whether you like him or not, if you live in New York City, he is going to work for you.

Just yesterday, Zohran Mamdani was sworn in as Mayor of New York City, a historic moment for the city and for voters everywhere. He took no corporate PAC money and was largely funded by small donors and public matching funds. Mamdani is not beholden to institutional donors like most politicians.
He proved that the American dream is still alive and for the taking. Nobody knew who this guy was 15 months ago, and he has already broken many records:
- Most votes EVER in a NYC mayoral primary
- Youngest NYC mayor in over 100 years — at 34, Mamdani is younger than any mayor in the modern era
- Largest volunteer force in a mayoral race — over 100,000 volunteers
- Highest general election turnout in decades — over 2 million ballots
- Highest vote total in a mayoral election in 60 years
- Historic firsts — first Muslim and South Asian mayor
Mamdani proved that when a candidate resonates with voters, even a grassroots candidate at just 34 years old, can take on the establishment.
Despite everything said about him, he stayed on message: “AFFORDABILITY.” Separate and distinct from that, Jewish people all over New York City came out in droves and voted for him twice. People from all walks of life love Mamdani.
This is what he is going to do:
- Freeze rents for rent stabilized tenants.
- Make city buses free and faster.
- Provide universal child care for ages six weeks to five years.
- Raise the minimum wage from $17 today to $30 by 2030.
- Expand affordable housing and lower the cost of living.
In closing, let’s not bash this young man. Let’s get excited. Mamdani broke through the establishment for the people. Touchdown for New York City!
